Lowry, Colorado Real Estate and Relocation Information
Lowry Air Force Base in east Denver was decommissioned in 1992,
opening it
up for the largest infill development in the U.S. The site is now
a landmark mixed use New
Urban Community combining small and medium sized businesses, retail,
educational, recreational and residential uses.
Lowry has been so successful that it received the Governor's Award
for Smart Growth, the 1999 Sustainable Community Award from the U.
S. Conference of Mayors and National Association of Counties, and
the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Secretary's
Award for innovative collaboration and sustainable growth. The community
is a model for urban infill projects across the country. Redevelopment
began in 1996 with the demolition of existing buildings and runways
and the building of Lowry's new infrastructure. Residents moved into
the first new homes in 1998.
Close to the heart of Denver, Lowry is 17 minutes from downtown,
10 minutes from the upscale Cherry Creek Shopping Center, 20 minutes
from the Denver Tech Center, and 25 minutes from the Denver International
Airport.

- Homes and other buildings are pre-wired for
high-speed Internet access and multiple phone lines. Homes
are also wired for automation, security and advanced entertainment
systems. Commercial buildings have advanced telecommunications
capabilities.
- Lowry real estate ranges from new low-income apartment
housing at the east end of the Lowry campus to million dollar
homes on prestigious 6th Avenue. Many buildings in the historic
core of Lowry have been converted to new urban living loft
homes, townhouses and apartments.

July 2008 Market Statistics
In metro Denver closed sales in July were 5,123 compared
with 4,980 in July 2007, a 2.9% gain. The average selling
price for the period was $262,224 compared to an average
in July 2007 of $289,294, a percentage drop of 9.4. The
median sale price for single-family homes was $229,200
compared with $255,000 in July 2007, for a drop of 10.1%.
969 condos and townhomes sold in July 2008, compared with
1,081 for the same period in 2007, a drop of 10.4%. Median
prices for condos in July 2008 were $149,000 compared with
$158,000 in July 2008, a drop of 5.7%. For single family
houses, condos and townhomes the average number of days
a house was on the market in July 2008 was 98, and in July
2007 was 95. The list to sale ratio was 97% in 2008 versus
98% in 2007. 25,673 houses are currently on the market
and interest rates are still low. It’s a great time to
buy in the Denver real estate market, but if you’re a seller
you may want to wait till conditions improve.

Lowry Shopping and Dining
- The community is home to the Lowry
Town Center, an urban design retail area geared toward leisurely
shopping, small restaurants, and strolling through the tree-lined
streets, perhaps for an ice cream in the summer, a latte in the
late afternoon, or a week's worth of groceries at the local Albertson's
super market.
- The newest restaurant at Lowry is The
Tavern. It joins other gathering places like Salty Rita’s,
Serioz, the Urban Harvest, and Pei Wei’s. Two Starbuck’s
offer coffee lovers a place to take a break or open the laptop at
these wired facilities.
- Cherry Creek is minutes away. Shopping in this upscale neighborhood
is a tourist must. Cherry
Creek North prides itself on its 320+ shops, restaurants and
galleries. World class Cherry Creek Shopping Center offers Saks,
Neiman Marcus, and Macy’s as well as many other shops, restaurants
and movie theaters. Popular restaurants in Cherry Creek include

Private
and public educational facilities range from pre-school to college,
including the home of the innovative Colorado

facilities abound at Lowry, from the Big Bear Ice Arena and Jackie
Robinson youth baseball field to the brand-new Montclair Recreation
Center. Broad tree-lined boulevards and open space characterize the
community. Wetlands and newly designed public parks dot the 1,866
acre space.
